Development Engineer Specialist

Vesper Energy is looking for a skilled and motivated individual to join the Vesper Energy Technical Services team as the Development Engineering Specialist. We are seeking Utility Solar Development Engineers who are eager to expand their skills to technical process improvement and tool creation. Key skills required for this role include project management, interpersonal and communication skills, and knowledge and experience of the various applicable engineering disciplines including prospecting, design, and concepts of electrical, civil, and structural in support of Utility-Scale Solar, and Solar plus Storage applications.

The Development Engineering Specialist will be responsible for implementing and managing process improvement projects relating to engineering functions including design optimization, engineering report standardization, and energy production simulation. The role will be required to collaborate with internal teams as well as external consultants to develop tools and processes.

Desired Educational Level:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Higher

Basic Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience as an engineer working with Utility-scale solar, storage, or related discipline required.
  • Previous knowledge of development engineering in support of large-scale solar projects a plus.
  • Previous knowledge of Lean or other process improvement methodologies a plus.
  • Understanding of project design and optimization tradeoffs and familiarity with the current market, equipment suppliers, contractors, typical technical specifications, and costs.
  • Experience and understanding of PV + BESS project design.
  • Knowledge of engineering and renewable energy systems; solar PV systems including SCADA and monitoring systems, and BESS.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, PVSyst, SAM, GIS, SIFT and related design applications.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, highly motivated and results-oriented, process-oriented with strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Advanced computer skills in MS Office, MS Windows, SharePoint, and project controls.
  • Interest in career growth in renewable energy development.
  • Detail-oriented with an intense sense of personal responsibility and ownership of work-product.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage process improvement efforts for functional departments such as Development Engineering, Transmission and Interconnection, and others as needed.
  • Develop tools to automate/streamline key engineering processes.
  • Collaborate with Functional Department Heads, Directors, and Subject Matter Experts to implement new tools and processes.
  • Monitor and maintain implemented tools and processes.
  • Support Technical Services KPIs and reporting efforts by updating monthly project summary reports.
