Vesper Energy is looking for a skilled and motivated individual to join the Vesper Energy team as VP, Development. Key skills required for this role include project management, economic analysis, contract negotiation, and transaction support across a pipeline of projects targeting wholesale power markets in the US.
The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of experience in the energy industry, strong financial analysis skills, an ability to effectively communicate complex ideas, and the ability and enthusiasm to drive projects forward.
Desired Educational Level:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required. Advanced degrees (MBA, MS) are preferred.
Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership:
- Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction for the Development team.
- Oversee the identification, evaluation, and development of utility-scale renewable energy and storage projects.
- Develop and implement strategic plans to achieve company objectives and expand the project pipeline.
Project Development:
- Lead greenfield development of utility-scale solar and storage projects in CAISO, WECC, PJM, MISO, SPP, or ERCOT markets.
- Optimize project sitting, manage the interconnection process, and navigate permitting, real estate, and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure projects are advanced to the construction and operation phases, meeting financial and operational targets.
Financial Oversight:
- Collaborate with the finance department to conduct financial feasibility analyses, evaluations, and project financing.
- Manage project budgets, objectives, schedules, and deliverables to ensure financial viability and compliance with company goals.
- Translate contracts and financing agreements into concise financial and economic analyses.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Engage with community, local, and state institutions to gain project support and manage public relations.
- Negotiate tax abatements, land use agreements, mitigation settlements, and other project-related agreements.
- Foster relationships with contractors, vendors, and consultants to maintain project timelines and budgets.
Team Management:
- Build and lead a high-performing Development team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence.
- Provide mentorship, guidance, and professional development opportunities for team members.
- Ensure effective communication and coordination across cross-functional teams to minimize project risks and maximize efficiency.
